  1. Before starting a new task:
    • You must be trained on the specific equipment, process, or condition.
    • Training must cover both how to do the job and the hazards involved.
  2. Who provides training:
    • Training must be given by a competent person designated by the mine operator.
  3. When training is required:
    • When assigned to a new task.
    • When new or modified equipment, methods, or conditions are introduced.
    • When a change in operations creates new hazards.
    • The training shall be given in an on-the-job environment. Supervision shall be conducted during non-production and production tasks.
  4. Documentation:
    • All task training must be recorded and signed.
    • Records are kept by the mine operator and available for review.

Key Safety Points During Task Training

  • Know Your Limits – Don’t perform a task if you haven’t been trained for it.
  • Speak Up – If training feels rushed or unclear, ask questions before you start work.
  • Hazard Awareness – Each task has unique risks: equipment pinch points, electrical hazards, roof/rib control, highwall stability, moving machinery, etc.
  • Emergency Procedures – Training must include what to do if something goes wrong.

Your Responsibility

  • Never operate equipment or perform a task without documented task training.
  • Follow the procedures exactly as taught.
  • Report unsafe conditions or anything that doesn’t match your training.

Takeaway

Task training isn’t just a rule—it’s for your protection. If you’re ever unsure about a job, stop and get the training you need.
